I’m new to the Agile way of working – I like the idea of it – and I don’t at present I work in a company that operates in a such a way. I’m frequently reading up around the topic and found this blog about pairing particularly interesting as I’d never really been exposed to the reasoning behind develops adverse to the idea. It will be interesting to read what ideas come from the session you are putting on, will they be online to view?

Good luck with the session and look forward to reading about it

Sara

I’ve worked with the opposite of Rod, someone who incredibly insisted on using Vim mode in a different IDE to the one that everyone else was using.

At GU the machines were a standard build including ide, tortoise etc – its the only way when you’re all rotating around, really.

Hope it all goes well

It might not be a useful persona to focus on but I feel that some people don’t want to pair because it means they can’t do everything else that they want during the day: personal email, im and twitter spring to mind.

I wonder if another persona is someone above project managers, in a company where there are multiple PMs all working on different projects, that thinks pairing is going to remove resource from one project in favour of another. Moira might be enough to cover this though.

Good point Ivan, thanks. I guess I had seen Sarah as covering some of this, but you’ve described it much better than I did.

I’ll definitely be there.

About the personas, I’m missing one for the inexperienced programmer, eager to learn but probably too shy to try programming with other people. He’s used to be given really simple and isolated tasks, and normally feels afraid of making any change in the codebase. He also thinks he’ll be slowing other people down if tries to pair up with them.

What do you think? Maybe it’s just me but it seems all the personas are experienced professionals.
